Indian food before Baba’s Kitchen In the early 2000s was practically non-existent. If customers wanted Indian food, their best option was to visit the Pham Ngu Lao area. Several restaurants offered similar Indian dishes, such as biryani and samosa, but not at the level we see today in the city. On September 2011, Baba’s Kitchen opened its first restaurant on Bui Vien Street in Pham Ngu Lao. As a result, Babas changed Indian food in Saigon! Baba’s has only gone from strength to strength, opening another fantastic location in Thao Dien and adding Thai food and Sri Lankan to their resume.
Baba’s has a vast menu with all the classics, from Butter Chicken, Vindaloo, Garlic Naan, Popadomas and Samosas. But our favourite is their Mutton Biriyani with the South Indian Paratha bread washed down with a mango lassi. A genuinely awesome combo. If you’re not in the mood for curry, you can check out their Thai Menu, where they have kept the standards of high quality and authenticity. Their Kaeng Kiew Wan Koong (Spicy green curry with shrimp) is a banger with all the flavour you could wish for!
Baba’s in Thao Dien is a beautiful, newly renovated villa on 35 Le Van Mien with a fantastic garden big enough for Birthday parties and large groups. They also have a tandoor oven out back, so you can smell all the tremendous flavours from there!
