Our story

Why we started it

Nick, left, and Olly, right, the founders of Saigon Scene

We’re Olly and Nick, two friends from the UK who fell hard for Saigon’s energy, its food, its bars and the people behind it all. What started as nights out and bowls of noodles on tiny plastic stools quickly turned into a deeper connection with the city.

As we explored, we saw how many brilliant local spots were flying under the radar: restaurants and bistros, indie cafés, bars and creative start-ups. Great places, struggling to reach the people who’d love them most.

So we built Saigon Scene. A way to connect locals, expats and visitors with the best of the city, while helping independent businesses grow. It’s not just about deals. It’s about discovery, and celebrating what makes Saigon unforgettable.

How we write our guides

  • Written in Saigon. We live here, and we eat and drink at the places we write about.
  • Checked before we publish. Addresses, opening hours and trading status are confirmed against each venue’s own channels.
  • Partners are labelled. Venues that give members an offer are marked as partners wherever they appear, and only included where they fit.
  • Kept current. When a place closes or changes, we update the guide and show the date we last checked.
  • Both address systems. New ward names from July 2025, alongside the old district names everyone still uses.

The team

The people behind the guides

Olly

Olly

Co-founder, partnerships

Olly co-founded Saigon Scene with Nick and looks after partnerships, which means he spends most of his week inside the bars, restaurants, cafés and gyms that give members an offer. Ten years in Saigon and he still eats out most nights. He has a soft spot for the independents, the places run by somebody who is usually standing behind the counter when you walk in.

Nick

Nick

Co-founder

Nick co-founded Saigon Scene with Olly after moving over from the UK, and looks after the website, the app and the guides. He is happiest two coffees deep on a motorbike somewhere he has not been before, usually chasing down a place somebody mentioned in passing. Most of what ends up on this site started with him going to check whether a tip was actually true.

Questions people ask

Who runs Saigon Scene?

Saigon Scene was started by Olly and Nick, two friends from the UK who live in Saigon. Olly looks after our partner venues; Nick looks after the website, app and guides.

Are partner venues paying for a good review?

No. Partners give our members an offer, and we label them clearly wherever they appear. We only include a partner in a guide where it genuinely fits, and plenty of places in our guides are not partners at all.

How do you check what you publish?

Every venue in a guide is checked against its own website, Google Maps listing or social pages for address, opening hours and whether it’s still trading. When a place closes, we update the guide and say so.

Is there a Vietnamese version?

Yes, key pages and partner pages are available in Vietnamese at saigon-scene.com/vi/.
