Best Mexican Restaurants in Saigon (2026)

The short answer: Agave Saigon on Pasteur is the best Mexican meal in the city if you’re eating properly, and Tippy’s in District 4 does the best burrito. If you want tacos and a tequila list in the middle of District 1, go to La Fiesta.

Saigon’s Mexican scene is small enough that everyone knows everyone, and good enough that you don’t have to settle. It divides neatly: contemporary Mexican with a Mexican chef in the kitchen, Californian-style taquerias run by people who grew up eating this food, and a handful of Tex-Mex rooms that are really about the margaritas. All ten below were checked as trading in September 2026. Three of them give Saigon Scene members 10% off.

One correction worth making: Bandido Saigon on Nguyen Hue is closed until further notice, and it still appears on most Saigon Mexican round-ups. It isn’t on this one.

1. La Fiesta

128 Ly Tu Trong, Ben Thanh Ward, District 1

Tex-Mex, open since 2014, and the most consistently busy Mexican room in the centre of town. Big plates, big margaritas, and a crowd that’s half expat and half local on any given night. Nobody is claiming this is Mexico City cooking, and nobody eating here minds.

It’s the right choice for a group, a birthday, or the first night of a trip when you want somewhere loud.

Order: the fajitas, and a jug rather than a glass.

2. Mamacita Thao Dien

80 Xuan Thuy, Thao Dien, Thu Duc

Thao Dien’s default Mexican, with indoor and outdoor seating and the kind of service that makes people come back weekly rather than annually. It fills up in the evening and stays full.

The outdoor tables are the reason to book. This is a place for a long lunch that turns into an afternoon rather than a quick taco.

Order: tacos to share, then stay for another round.

3. Tippy’s Mexican Food

99 Street No. 45, Ward 6, District 4

A small, bright room in District 4 doing the best burritos in Saigon — piping hot, properly wrapped and genuinely large, with hand-made tortillas and salsa. Regulars compare it to San Diego, which is high praise and roughly accurate.

The green chili pork and bean burrito is the one to get. Breakfast burritos, carne asada and fish tacos are all on. In the interest of honesty: reviews are not unanimous, and a burrito can arrive cooler than it should on a slow day. Eat in rather than ordering delivery — the delivery-app prices are noticeably higher than the menu.

4. Agave Saigon

13 Pasteur, Nguyen Thai Binh Ward, District 1 · lunch 12–2pm, dinner until 10pm

Vietnam’s first contemporary Mexican bistro, opened by Ricardo of Macho Taco with chef Carlos Bravo, previously at the Marriott in Phu Quoc. This is the one to book when the meal is the point — wood-washed room, real technique, and a menu that treats Mexican food as a cuisine rather than a party theme.

Order: whatever the kitchen is proudest of that week. Ask.

5. Rico Taco

74/7 Hai Ba Trung, District 1 · 10am–10pm daily

Down an alley off Hai Ba Trung, with a Mexican chef and a menu that stays close to home: ceviche, tacos, quesadillas, burritos, and salsas made properly. Less polished than Agave and cheaper for it.

Order: the ceviche to start, then whatever taco is on special.

6. District Federal

84 Xuan Thuy, Thao Dien, Thu Duc

Named after Mexico City’s Distrito Federal and cooking like it. The tacos use nixtamalised corn, which is the difference between a tortilla that tastes of something and one that doesn’t — and almost nowhere else in Saigon bothers.

Graffitied walls, weekly live music and a bar that takes cocktails seriously. Loud by design.

Order: anything on a corn tortilla, and stay for the band.

7. Tacos Fuego

48 Pham Viet Chanh, Ward 19, Binh Thanh and 26 Xuan Thuy, Thao Dien

Open since 2019 and the closest Saigon gets to a Southern Californian taqueria — fast, cheap enough, and consistent across both branches. This is weeknight food rather than occasion food, which is exactly the point.

Order: three tacos and a horchata.

8. Gringo Tacos y Cantina

District 1

Two floors, and one of the largest tequila collections in the city. They press their own corn tortillas and make queso fresco daily, which matters more than the decor suggests it might.

Come for a margarita and stay because the tacos turn out to be good.

Order: tacos al pastor, and something from the top shelf.

9. El Camino Taqueria

Thao Dien, Thu Duc

Founded by Calvin Bui and built on Mexican-Korean fusion, which sounds like a stretch until you eat it. Casual to the point of stools on the pavement, with craft beer to go with the burritos.

Order: a fusion burrito and a cold pint.

10. Simple Place

215B4 Nguyen Van Huong, Thao Dien, Thu Duc

A hole in the wall that has quietly outlasted flashier neighbours by doing cheap Tex-Mex well: enchiladas, grilled chicken tacos, pork carnitas and burritos on homemade tortillas, with a genuinely good vegetarian selection. Duck tacos are the outlier and the reason regulars go.

Order: duck tacos, then the enchiladas.

What Mexican food costs in Saigon

Tacos run roughly 60,000–120,000₫ each depending on the room, burritos 150,000–250,000₫, and margaritas 150,000₫ and up. Simple Place and Tacos Fuego are the cheap end; Agave is the expensive one, and worth it. Prices checked September 2026.
