Community

Local businesses don’t only build a more robust economy — they also build a stronger community. Relationships between small businesses are essential in creating a cohesive, welcoming community identity, with businesses supporting each other.

Saigon Scene is committed to building local links. We value our relationships with our partners and we’re always thinking of ways to grow them further. Take a look at our amazing partnerships!

Even local businesses we don’t work with directly, we are always happy to mention them in our social media posts!

Our favourite thing about independent businesses, and the thing we’re most proud of here at Saigon Scene, is the difference in customer service that a local business can provide. Local businesses are run by locals and proud ex-pats who care about the community and want to support it. So you can expect the staff of a local business to be genuinely committed to and enthusiastic about their business, working hard to make it the best that it can be with a genuine emotional connection to the business and the community.

Another effect of this is that local businesses are also more accountable to the community they’re a part of. The people who make decisions regarding the business are a lot more accessible. Rather than being in some far-distant office, they’re around to engage with

Memorable experience

In shopping locally, not only are you helping to strengthen the local economy, but you’re more likely to have a memorable time! Rather than the same standard product or experience that a chain provides, local businesses can give you something that you couldn’t find anywhere else. In addition, the local competition offers the economy with a kick, not only of profit but of innovation, with small businesses constantly looking for new and exciting ways to grow.

The diversity of local businesses reflects the diversity of the community that creates them. Saigon’s range of local businesses helps transform the city’s streets, building a local character that’s original and vibrant. We genuinely believe that Saigon is a better and more exciting place thanks to its small business community, whether you’re a local, one of the many visitors or ex-pats.

· Co-founder, partnerships

Olly co-founded Saigon Scene with Nick and looks after partnerships, which means he spends most of his week inside the bars, restaurants, cafés and gyms that give members an offer. Ten years in Saigon and he still eats out most nights. He has a soft spot for the independents, the places run by somebody who is usually standing behind the counter when you walk in.

How we write these guides

Saigon Scene is based in Ho Chi Minh City. We visit, check addresses and opening hours against each venue’s own channels, and update guides when places close. Partner venues give our members a discount, and they are marked on the page. Last checked September 2026.
