The best smash burger in Saigon is the Smash Cheeseburger at Le Café des Stagiaires, a French-Belgian rooftop over the river in Thảo Điền. It costs 180,000₫ before VAT, and on Mondays and Tuesdays the second one is free.
A smash burger is a ball of beef pressed flat onto a very hot griddle, so the patty is thin and the edges go crisp and lacy. Across Ho Chi Minh City a single now costs 158,000₫ to 180,000₫ at the six places below. The first three are Saigon Scene partners, where members get 10% off, which is why they come first. 1. Le Café des Stagiaires
Le Café des Stagiaires is a bistro and bar on a rooftop above the Saigon River, with Landmark 81 across the water and covered areas for when the rain comes in. Ask Olly, who looks after our partners, what it is famous for and the smash burger is the first thing he names. He also calls it “one of the best places in Thao Dien to sit back, have a drink and watch Saigon go by.”
The Smash Cheeseburger is a US beef patty with American cheese, pickles, caramelised onions and the house sauce, which the late-night menu calls Samourai, the spicy mayonnaise Belgians put on their fries. It is 180,000₫ before VAT. A second patty adds 80,000₫, bacon 40,000₫, and Belgian fries on the side are 60,000₫, hand-cut and triple-cooked in beef fat.
Go on a Monday or Tuesday if you can. Until 10pm on those two days, buy a burger or sandwich and you get the same one again free. On Friday and Saturday the burger is also on the late-night menu, from 11pm to 1am.

2. Eddie’s New York Deli & Diner
Eddie’s New York Deli & Diner is a 1950s-style American diner, better known for its Reuben than for its burgers, which are mostly flame-grilled. Tucked into the burger menu, though, is a short list of smash cheeseburger specials. They come with fries, which makes them the best-value plate on this list.
The Single Smash Cheeseburger is a 100g smashed patty with American cheese, burger sauce, lettuce and tomato for 179,000₫. The Double is two smashed patties, 120g between them, with pickles and grilled onions for 219,000₫, and another 50,000₫ takes it up to 170g. If someone else is paying, the Premium Smash Wagyu Duo is 379,000₫. Menu prices leave out 8% VAT, and Eddie’s adds a 5% service charge when you eat in.
The whole menu is served all day from 8am, so a smash burger for breakfast is a real option here.

3. Chuck’s Burgers
Chuck’s Burgers has been making LA-style burgers on Phạm Viết Chánh since 2013, and it grinds its own beef. Strictly speaking the house patty is thicker than a smash burger, cooked to order with a caramelised crust. Ask, though, and Chuck will smash it for you. That is how we would order it.
You build your burger by marking up the menu with a whiteboard pen. The Cheese Burger is 160,000₫ and the Double Cheese Burger 260,000₫, VAT included, and the toppings that cost nothing are generous: grilled onions, pickles, a wonton crisp and Chuck’s special sauce among them. Sides are extra. Fresh-cut fries start at 50,000₫, and the zucchini fries (100,000₫) are our pick.

4. Bunz Smash Burgers
Bunz is the specialist. It does smash burgers, chicken tenders, fries and shakes, and that is about it. The beef is Australian Wagyu, smashed on the griddle and served in a soft, buttery brioche bun with the house sauce.
There are two smash burgers on the menu: the Smash Burger and the West Coast Smash, which gets smashed with onions. Both are 160,000₫ for a regular, 200,000₫ for a large and 240,000₫ for an extra large. The large is a double, and it is the one to get. Fries are 60,000₫, truffle fries 80,000₫, and a milkshake 160,000₫. The original shop is a small counter-service place in An Phú, next door to Thảo Điền. Its own site also lists a rooftop branch in District 1.
Bunz was a Saigon Scene partner in an earlier version of this guide. It no longer is, so there is no member discount, but the burgers keep it on the list.

5. Banana Mama
Banana Mama is a rooftop bar on the 10th floor of the Mayfair Hotel, a short walk from Bùi Viện, and the kitchen is built around smash burgers made with Australian grass-fed beef. It has been there since 2019. DJs play from Thursday to Sunday, so go earlier in the week if you would like to hear the person you are eating with.
Le Smash is 160,000₫: a homemade bun, a smashed patty, cheddar, grilled onions, pickles and special sauce. A second patty is 50,000₫ more. Le Kimchieggstasy (180,000₫) piles kimchi, a fried egg and bacon on top. The house fries, 65,000₫, are thin-cut and fried in beef tallow.

6. Mr. Smash Burger
The newest name here. Mr. Smash started in Bali, where it has several shops, and its Vietnam menu is dated 2 September 2026. The Saigon branch is on Bùi Viện and, according to its Foody listing, stays open until 3:30am, which on that street is the whole point.
The Original Smash Burger is 158,000₫: smashed black Angus beef, American cheddar, pickles, minced onions and secret sauce in a brioche bun. Sizes run from S to XXL, and each step up adds 50,000₫. The Spicy, with pickled jalapeños, is 178,000₫, the Truffle 198,000₫, and the Greedy, with double bacon and double cheddar, 208,000₫. A plant-based version is 158,000₫. Homemade fries are 68,000₫. All of it is before 8% VAT.

At these six, a single smash burger costs 158,000₫ to 180,000₫ and a double 200,000₫ to 260,000₫. Fries are usually extra, at 50,000₫ to 68,000₫. Read the small print before you compare: Le Café des Stagiaires and Mr. Smash add VAT to the menu price, Eddie’s adds VAT plus 5% service, and Chuck’s includes VAT.
The cheapest full plate is Eddie’s Single Smash Cheeseburger, 179,000₫ with fries, which comes to a little over 200,000₫ once service and VAT are on. The best deal is Le Café des Stagiaires on a Monday or Tuesday, when two Smash Cheeseburgers cost the price of one. At the three partners, a Saigon Scene membership takes another 10% off.

Those facts come from each venue’s own website or menu, the Vietnamese business registry where we could find the company, and a dated 2026 listing. Addresses use the ward names in force since 1 July 2025, with the old name in brackets.

Back’s Burger in District 7 is out, because its patties are grilled to order rather than smashed and we could not pin down its current address.
