Umbala

Umbala is Thảo Điền’s live music venue and event space, upstairs at 14 Đường Số 11. Same building a lot of you will already know, one floor up.

The room is built for live music and for putting on events, so what is happening on any given night depends on who is playing. Check what is on before you go rather than turning up cold, and give yourself a minute to find the stairs the first time.

A proper send-off for Bardo

This address spent years as Bardo Cocktails & Arts, and it was one of the best partners we have had. Bardo ran stand-up nights, karaoke, open mics, drag bingo, art exhibitions and more DJs than anyone kept count of, and it did it with a warmth that is genuinely hard to manufacture. Members drank there. Our other partners drank there. A lot of very good nights happened in that room, and a fair few friendships started in it.

Omar has now reshaped the space. Since August 2026 it has been running upstairs as Umbala, leaning into the live music side of what Bardo was always good at. The name on the door has changed and the concept has moved on, but it is the same address and the same person behind it, which is why we have kept the partnership rather than started again.

14 Đường Số 11, Thảo Điền, Thủ Đức, Ho Chi Minh City. Upstairs. It is a short ride from An Phú metro station, and walkable from most of Thảo Điền.
