Ho Chi Minh City Nightlife (2026): 19 Best Bars and Where to Go Out

The best bars in Saigon, area by area: rooftops, speakeasies, Bùi Viện and Thảo Điền, closing times, prices and the rules visitors miss. Checked September 2026.

The short answer

Ho Chi Minh City’s nightlife runs on four streets. Bùi Viện is the loud, cheap backpacker party. The downtown core around Đồng Khởi and Nguyễn Huệ has the hotel rooftops and serious cocktail bars. Thảo Điền is the relaxed expat bar scene. And Phạm Viết Chánh in Bình Thạnh is the one-street bar strip most visitors never find. Start with a cocktail at Snuffbox, go up to a rooftop, and finish wherever is still open at 2am.

This guide covers the best bars in Saigon, where to go in each area, how late the city really stays open, what a night out costs, and the rules that catch visitors out. Every venue was checked in September 2026. A lot has closed in the last two years (see the end of the guide), so treat any list older than that with suspicion.

A note on addresses: Vietnam abolished district-level administration on 1 July 2025. Old District 1 is now Sài Gòn, Bến Thành, Tân Định and Cầu Ông Lãnh wards, and Thảo Điền is part of An Khánh Ward. We give both, because everyone still says “District 1”.

How late does Saigon stay open?

Later than most of Southeast Asia, but with rules. By law, karaoke venues must close from midnight to 8am, and licensed dance clubs from 2am to 8am. There is no equivalent national cut-off for ordinary bars, and in practice most close between midnight and 2am. A handful run later: Qui and Luu Bar pour until 3am, Luu Bar until 5am at weekends, and several bars around Bùi Viện stay open until 4am. Our full guide to Bui Vien Street covers the walking street hours, what a night there is really like and where to go when you have had enough.

What does a night out cost?

  • Bùi Viện: a draught beer is 20,000–50,000₫.
  • Downtown cocktail bars: around 180,000–300,000₫ a cocktail.
  • Hotel rooftops: 280,000–350,000₫ a cocktail, with happy hours that halve it before 7 or 8pm.
  • Craft beer taprooms: roughly 90,000–165,000₫ a half-litre. Our craft breweries guide has the details.

VAT is 8% until the end of 2026. The cheapest way to drink well is to use happy hours, which almost every bar on this list runs, and a Saigon Scene membership, which takes 10–20% off at the partner bars below.

1. Snuffbox Speakeasy

14 Tôn Thất Đạm, first floor, Sài Gòn Ward (District 1) · evenings until 2am

One of Saigon’s best-known speakeasies is behind an unmarked entrance on the first floor of a building on Tôn Thất Đạm. Inside it is 1920s New York: classic cocktails, low light, and live music on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights. It shares the building with Refined Coffee & Cocktails, which makes an easy first drink before you go upstairs.

2. 2 Lam Son Bar

Park Hyatt Saigon, 2 Lam Son Square, Sài Gòn Ward (District 1) · daily 5pm–1am

The Park Hyatt’s bar is where Saigon goes for a properly made martini. It hosts guest shifts from bartenders at World’s 50 Best Bars venues, has a live DJ, and runs “Her Night”, a ladies’ night, on Wednesdays from 9pm. Dress for the hotel.

3. The Park Rooftop Bar & Lounge

5th floor, 20 Đỗ Quang Đẩu, Bến Thành Ward (District 1) · Sun–Thu 5pm–midnight, Fri–Sat 5pm–2am

One block off Bùi Viện, and the best way to see it without being in the middle of it. The Park is a two-level rooftop with cocktails, DJs and live bands at weekends, and bottle service if the night calls for it. Go up for sunset, come down when the street gets going.

4. Jackalope

56 Phó Đức Chính, Bến Thành Ward (District 1) · daily 4pm–12:30am

An American-style whisky and cocktail bar with a loft upstairs and a balcony for cigars. Whisky is the focus, and cocktails run around 180,000–300,000₫. It is a good choice for a quieter, grown-up night close to Bến Thành Market.

5. 7 Bridges Brewing Co.

15B/12 Lê Thánh Tôn, Sài Gòn Ward (District 1) · daily noon–2am
38 Đông Du, Sài Gòn Ward (District 1) · Sun–Wed 10am–midnight, Thu–Sat 10am–1am

For beer rather than cocktails. The Đông Du taproom has 40 taps over three floors, and the Lê Thánh Tôn original stays open until 2am every night, with the kitchen serving until 1:30am. That makes it one of the few places downtown where you can eat properly after midnight.

6. The Racha Room

105–107 Xuân Thủy, An Khánh Ward (Thảo Điền) · 5pm–midnight, Fri–Sat until 1am · happy hour 5–8pm

Thảo Điền’s best cocktail bar: an industrial, low-lit room with Thai-inspired food and barrel-aged and smoked cocktails. The happy hour is the one to plan around, with 50% off cocktails and dumplings from 5 to 8pm.

7. The Rabbit Hole Irish Sports Bar

38 Quốc Hương, An Khánh Ward (Thảo Điền) and 111 Phạm Viết Chánh, Thạnh Mỹ Tây Ward (Bình Thạnh) · daily 3pm–2am · happy hour 3–7pm

The expat pub, in two locations. Premier League, rugby, UFC and F1 on the screens, a pub quiz on Tuesdays, live bands, pool and a Sunday roast. The happy hour is buy two, get one free.

8. Rafters Sports Bar

86 Phạm Viết Chánh, Thạnh Mỹ Tây Ward (Bình Thạnh) · daily 4pm–2am

The anchor of the Phạm Viết Chánh strip. Rafters shows live sport, has pool tables and puts on live music, and it is rated 4.9 on Google. From here, Symposium, Terroir, The Rabbit Hole and Luu Bar are all within a few doors.

9. Symposium Bar & Lounge

85/5A Phạm Viết Chánh, Thạnh Mỹ Tây Ward (Bình Thạnh) · 5pm–2am, Fri–Sun until 3am · happy hour 5–8pm

A cocktail lounge with an upstairs balcony and shisha, and a weekly rhythm: gentlemen’s night on Wednesday, ladies’ night on Thursday, live music on Saturday. It is one of the latest bars on the strip at weekends.

10. Terroir Wine Bar

85/7 Phạm Viết Chánh, Thạnh Mỹ Tây Ward (Bình Thạnh) · 6pm–midnight, closed Mondays

Terroir has moved from Đề Thám to Phạm Viết Chánh, so ignore older listings. It is a sommelier-led bar with 20 wines by the glass and more than 100 bottles, and it serves Detroit-style pizza, which turns out to be exactly what you want with a glass of red.

11. The BLACKSHEEP at Malandro

98 Nguyễn Văn Thủ, Tân Định Ward (District 1) · until 1:30am

A café by day and a speakeasy-style cocktail bar by night, in the quieter streets of Tân Định. It is a good late option if you want to avoid the crowds downtown.

12. TD Lounge

84 Xuân Thủy, An Khánh Ward (Thảo Điền) · daily 5pm–1am

A big, easy-going Thảo Điền bar with an outdoor area, a pool table and Réhahn photographs on the walls. Cocktails, wine and beer, and room to bring a group.

13. Chill Skybar

26th floor, AB Tower, 76A Lê Lai, Bến Thành Ward (District 1) · daily 5:30pm–1:30am · happy hour 5:30–8pm

Saigon’s most famous rooftop, and the closest thing downtown has to a club with a view. It has more than 5,900 Google reviews. The dress code is enforced: smart casual, no tank tops, no flip-flops, and no shorts above the knee for men, and it gets stricter after happy hour ends.

14. Qui Cuisine Mixology

22 Lê Thánh Tôn, Sài Gòn Ward (District 1) · daily 5:30pm–3am

A cocktail lounge with deep-house DJs, and one of the few downtown bars open until 3am, which makes it a natural last stop.

15. Social Club Rooftop Bar

24th floor, Hotel des Arts, 76–78 Nguyễn Thị Minh Khai, Xuân Hòa Ward (District 3) · 3pm–midnight, Fri–Sat until 1am · happy hour 3–7pm

A hotel rooftop bar with one of the best happy hours in the city: 50% off from 3 to 7pm, on cocktails that are otherwise 280,000–350,000₫. Smart casual, and no flip-flops or beach shorts.

16. Luu Bar

108 Phạm Viết Chánh, Thạnh Mỹ Tây Ward (Bình Thạnh) · 5pm–3am, Fri–Sat until 5am

A cocktail bar that becomes a small club, and the latest night out on this list. When the rest of Phạm Viết Chánh closes at 2am, this is where it goes.

17. Carmen

8 Lý Tự Trọng, Sài Gòn Ward (District 1) · daily 7pm–1am

A long-running live music bar on Lý Tự Trọng with Latin and flamenco bands. Rated 4.3 from more than 1,000 Google reviews.

18. Yoko

22A Nguyễn Thị Diệu, Xuân Hòa Ward (District 3) · live bands Tuesday to Sunday from around 9pm

A live music bar in old District 3. Come for the bands rather than the drinks list, and arrive after 9pm.

19. Acoustic Bar

6E1 Ngô Thời Nhiệm, Xuân Hòa Ward (District 3) · 7pm–midnight, bands from about 9:15pm
Also at 18 Trần Ngọc Diện, Thảo Điền

A long-running live band bar, and a very different night from the rooftops. For jazz specifically, see our jazz bars in Saigon.

Saigon nightlife by area

Downtown: Đồng Khởi, Nguyễn Huệ and Lam Sơn Square

The smart end of Saigon’s nightlife, now mostly in Sài Gòn Ward. Beyond Snuffbox, 2 Lam Son, 7 Bridges and Qui, the cocktail bars cluster on three streets. Mạc Thị Bưởi has Firkin (20) and The Triệu Institute (10), Hồ Tùng Mậu has Drinking & Healing (25), and Layla (63 Đông Du) and Yunka (80 Đồng Khởi) are a few minutes’ walk away. Stir (136 Lê Thánh Tôn) and Cội jazz bar (77–79 Lý Tự Trọng) are nearby. For beer, Heart of Darkness and Pasteur Street are both a short walk away.

Bùi Viện walking street

Saigon’s backpacker street: plastic stools, cheap beer, music from every doorway, and bars that run until 4am, including Go2 and Hair of the Dog. It is at its busiest at weekends, when the street is closed to traffic in the evening. For a view of it rather than a seat in it, go up to The Park, Boosh Rooftop or The View on the 9th floor of the Duc Vuong Hotel. Keep your phone in a front pocket and never leave it on a street-side table.

Thảo Điền

The expat bar scene along Xuân Thủy and the side streets off it: more relaxed, more garden bars, more sport. Partners here include The Racha Room, TD Lounge, The Rabbit Hole, Play Saigon (sport, pool and darts until 3am), W.A.L.L Bar (wine, games and 90s retro) and Umbala (live music and events, upstairs). Non-partners worth knowing: Lost Birds (24A Xuân Thủy, until 3am at weekends), 86 Proof whiskey bar (109 Xuân Thủy) and Afterglow Sky Bar (43A Xuân Thủy), a dance club until 2am, closed Mondays. Our Thảo Điền bar guide goes deeper.

Phạm Viết Chánh, Bình Thạnh

The bar crawl most visitors miss. Club Oenologique described it as “a small one-street neighbourhood” with “a steady rise in eclectic bars”. Within a few doors of each other: Rafters (86), Symposium (85/5A), Terroir (85/7), Twentyeight Bar & Lounge (90), The Company (107), Luu Bar (108) and The Rabbit Hole (111). Park once, walk all night.

Where to dance

Saigon no longer has a single club district. Envy, Glow Rooftop, EON Heli Bar and Level 23 have all closed. In 2026 the dancing happens at Chill Skybar, Qui (until 3am), Luu Bar (until 5am at weekends), The Observatory (now at 85 Cách Mạng Tháng Tám, late on Friday to Sunday), Afterglow in Thảo Điền, and around Bùi Viện.

The rules that catch visitors out

  • Zero tolerance on drink-driving. Since 1 January 2025 it is illegal to drive a motorbike or car with any alcohol in your blood or breath. On a motorbike the top-tier penalty is a fine of 8–10 million₫ and a 22–24-month licence suspension, and foreigners face the same penalties. Take a Grab.
  • Use Grab, not street taxis, late at night. The fare is fixed before you book, you can share your trip live with a friend, and the app has an emergency button. GrabCar is the safer choice after a few drinks.
  • The drinking age is 18.
  • Watch your bag and phone. Snatch thefts from passing motorbikes happen. Carry your bag on the side away from the road, and if it happens, let go rather than struggle.
  • Watch your drink. Don’t accept drinks from strangers and keep yours in sight. UK and Australian government travel advice also warns of methanol in alcoholic drinks, even at licensed bars, which cannot be detected by taste or smell. Stick to reputable venues and sealed bottles.
  • Check the bill. Use bars that display their prices, and check the total before you pay.

Closed, so don’t bother

A lot of older Saigon nightlife guides send you to places that no longer exist. As of September 2026, these have closed: Envy Club, Glow Rooftop, EON Heli Bar at Bitexco, Level 23 at the Sheraton, Momento Rooftop, and The Observatory’s old Nguyễn Tất Thành site. Lush on Lý Tự Trọng is listed as closed and its website is down. Saigon Saigon Rooftop Bar at the Caravelle has been closed for renovation since 18 May 2026, with no reopening date announced.

How we picked

Every bar on this list was checked in September 2026 for its current address, opening hours and trading status on Google Maps and its own website or social pages. Closed venues are listed as closed rather than quietly left in. Prices come from the venues or dated 2026 guides, and the legal information from Vietnamese government sources. Entries 1–12 are Saigon Scene partners, which is why they come first and why members save there; the rest are the non-partner bars we would send a friend to.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the best nightlife in Ho Chi Minh City?

It depends on the night you want. The downtown core around Đồng Khởi, Nguyễn Huệ and Lam Sơn Square has the hotel rooftops and cocktail bars. Bùi Viện walking street is the cheap, loud backpacker party. Thảo Điền is the relaxed expat bar scene along Xuân Thủy, and Phạm Viết Chánh in Bình Thạnh is a one-street bar strip with Rafters, Symposium, Terroir and Luu Bar within a few doors.

What time do bars close in Saigon?

Most bars close between midnight and 2am. By law karaoke venues must close from midnight to 8am and licensed dance clubs from 2am to 8am, but there is no equivalent national rule for ordinary bars. Qui and Luu Bar are open until 3am, Luu Bar until 5am on Fridays and Saturdays, and several bars around Bùi Viện stay open until 4am.

How much does a night out in Saigon cost?

A draught beer on Bùi Viện is 20,000–50,000 VND. Cocktails at downtown bars are around 180,000–300,000 VND, and at hotel rooftops 280,000–350,000 VND, though rooftop happy hours often halve that before 7 or 8pm. Craft beer is roughly 90,000–165,000 VND a half-litre.

Is there a dress code at Saigon rooftop bars?

At the hotel rooftops, yes. Chill Skybar asks for smart casual, with no tank tops, flip-flops or men's shorts above the knee, and enforces it more strictly after happy hour. Social Club at Hotel des Arts does not allow flip-flops or beach shorts.

Can I drive a motorbike after drinking in Vietnam?

No. Since 1 January 2025 it has been illegal to drive a motorbike or car with any alcohol in your blood or breath. Motorbike penalties at the top tier are a fine of 8–10 million VND and a 22–24-month licence suspension, and foreigners face the same rules. Book a Grab instead.

Where can I go dancing in Saigon?

Saigon no longer has a single club district: Envy, Glow Rooftop and EON Heli Bar have closed. In 2026 the dancing happens at Chill Skybar, Qui (until 3am), Luu Bar on Phạm Viết Chánh (until 5am at weekends), The Observatory at 85 Cách Mạng Tháng Tám, Afterglow Sky Bar in Thảo Điền, and around Bùi Viện.

Is Saigon safe at night?

Generally yes, with sensible precautions. Snatch theft from passing motorbikes is the most common problem, so keep your phone in a front pocket and your bag away from the road. Don't accept drinks from strangers, keep your drink in sight, and use Grab rather than street taxis to get home.
